About the Helensville Birthing Centre
We are a community facility offering birthing and post-natal care, situated in the heart of the rural community of Helensville
Helensville Birthing Centre is available for families who choose to give birth in a low-tech environment and want the opportunity to rest and establish breastfeeding in the immediate post-natal period.
Helensville Birthing Centre is owned by the Helensville District Health Trust, and is fully licensed with The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI). It is a subsiduary of the Helensville District Health Trust which is a registered Charitable Trust (registration number CC29397) donations or bequests are tax deductable and can be sent to PO Box 13 Helensville.
Our Philosophy
We believe that birth is a natural process.
We believe women have the right to full information that enables them to choose their method and intervention, ensuring maximum safety and comfort for both mother and baby, throughout their stay with us.
We believe breastfeeding is essential to the early development of the parent/child relationship and the ongoing health of the infant.
Our Services
Birthing
Midwives working at the centre specialise in natural childbirth and welcome mothers with a normal pregnancy for delivery at the centre.
Two specially designed delivery rooms with large birthing baths are available for labour and delivery.
Post-natal care
Our post-natal staff are all registered nurses and / or midwives. They all have a strong commitment to helping you establish successful breastfeeding.
We aim to provide a restful and stress-free environment. Care will be provided to suit your individual requirements. You can stay for two days and nights, or longer if your midwife considers it necessary.
If you choose to deliver at Waitakere, North Shore or National Women’s Hospitals you can transfer back to Helensville for post-natal care.
Helensville Birthing Centre provides a free service within a community as an alternative to hospital care. It is available seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.
Accommodation
Every mother has a private self-contained room with her own toilet and shower facility.
All of our rooms have double beds, TV, phone and specially designed chairs for comfort when feeding. Delivery and post-natal areas are separate.
Meals are served at times to suit you and your baby. We pride ourselves in a wide choice of menu and your preferences can be individually met by our caterer who visits daily.
A supermarket and several food outlets are handy to the centre for partners to purchase food for themselves
